Our KNX partnership was an automatic choice
We’ve been interested in KNX from the instant we heard the term.
So we are pleased to now announce that DIB Audiovisual is a KNX Partner Company here in Australia.
Before we go any further, what exactly is the purpose of KNX?
Organisations are demanding simpler and more flexible management of heating, lighting and access control systems and this demand extends to other systems including audiovisual.
At the same time, sustainability and the efficient use of energy is becoming increasingly important. Gone are the days of just leaving equipment on stand-by soaking up energy whilst not in use.
However, flexibility, control and convenience combined with lower energy consumption can only be achieved by intelligent control and monitoring of all products involved.
This is a true challenge as it naturally implies more complexity, more wiring running from the sensors and actuators to the control and monitoring centres.
For professionals, such a mass of wiring also means higher design and installation efforts, increased fire risk and soaring costs.
But not with KNX.
KNX offers the following benefits:
- A future-proof technology
- Endless flexibility and personalisation
- A safe and secure system
- Timesaving and easy installation
- An integrated and future proof solution
- An international community
For those more technically minded, here is a description of what KNX actually is:
KNX is an open standard (see EN 50090, ISO/IEC 14543) for commercial and domestic building automation.
KNX devices can manage lighting, blinds and shutters, HVAC, security systems, energy management, audio-video, white goods, displays, remote control, etc.
KNX evolved from three earlier standards; the European Home Systems Protocol (EHS), BatiBUS, and the European Installation Bus (EIB or Instabus).
It can use twisted pair (in a tree, line or star topology), powerline, RF, or IP links .
On this network, the devices form distributed applications and tight interaction is possible. This is implemented via interworking models with standardised datapoint types and objects, modelling logical device channels.
DIB’s interest in KNX is primarily in relation to providing further simplified user interfaces to building controls associated with AV such as lighting, blinds, heating and cooling.
It means when we install an audiovisual system, we can now integrate an all in one simple user interface that includes being able to control lighting, blinds, heating and cooling – along with your projectors, recording devices, microphones and more.
All in all it means we can provide an even higher level of design, and user experience than ever before.
This is why our KNX partnership was an automatic choice
We are proud to be a KNX partner and look forward to integrating it into our projects with organisations and schools like yours.
