DIB has assisted Melbourne Grammar with many audio visual installations over the past 8 years. Recently we were privileged to assist the Junior campus with the design and installation of a highly effective, very discrete and simple to your audio visual system for a small multipurpose hall.
Melbourne Grammar has many beautiful old buildings, but they often pose an audio visual design and installation challenge. This hall was no different.
After several meetings with the client and even equipment demonstrations to confirm fitness for purposes a design based around the use of a long throw EPSON G series projector was developed. DIB worked with MGS’s maintenance department to have some slight adjustments made to the space to allow the projector to be hidden high at the rear of the room.
Both VGA and HDMI inputs were provided at the front of the room and the control was simplified down to an Extron MLC104IP controller which was both simple to use and allowed for remote management/support and IPAD control integration for wireless control when required.
As the room was to provide for medium size gatherings, quality Sennheiser wireless microphones were included (1 lapel and 1 handheld). Adding to the rooms flexibility a single fixed microphone socket complete with phantom power in operation was installed at the front for lectern use and a single 3.5mm auxiliary input was also provided for use with IPOD’s and other music playing deices when required.
To ensure simple and effective sound and control always, a Lab Gruppen amplifier drives a pair of quality Turbo sound speakers which are discretely mounted in the rafters of the space. The systems audio input are driven through a rack mounted digital mixer which provides full EQ control on each input and allows limits for gain controls to be set. To ensure simplified operation we then employed simple wall control panels which allow users to simple choose what audio source they want to adjust and then adjust the level up and down just like they could with a rack mounted mixer; except they can not access the controls they don’t need to and they can not get into trouble as they can not access master levels controls etc.
All in all, the result was a high quality system which is both discrete and simple to use.
