The City of Stonnington is a local government area located within the metropolitan area of Melbourne. It comprises of inner south-eastern suburbs, between 3 and 13 km from the Melbourne CBD. Suburbs within the municipality include Malvern, Toorak and Prahran. A new project saw major redevelopment of the multi-storey council offices building on the Malvern site.
DIB Audio Visual were initially approached by BRT Consulting and Stonnington City Council to consult, design and supply a tender document prior to the project going out to tender. DIB were fortunate enough to win the tender, providing AV solutions for the project and deliver multiple AV systems across the site, all within a very specific timeframe.
Working in with Stonnington’s IT infrastructure Coordinator, DIB Consultant, James Ridd, worked hard to design AV solutions that, whilst sophisticated and aesthetically pleasing, were also easy-to-use.
Stage 1 of the redevelopment included an interactive custom service foyer, open plan working spaces, staff breakout areas, and formal and informal meeting zones. This blog article will focus on one of the meeting areas.
As the main display, an Epson EB-G6270W, with a super-bright 6,500 lumens was selected to provide a Full-HD, high quality image. This was projected onto a 120-inch Grandview Motorised SmartScreen (GRSG120C), which was nicely housed inside a Hills HH5 motorised 120-inch enclosure.
The secondary display chosen for the space was the Epson EB-1430Wi interactive projector with finger touch (MeetingMate series). This gives staff a versatile display, where they can collaborate and save ideas for projects they are working on.
From formal presentations with projection on the big 120-inch Grandview Motorised SmartScreen (via the Epson EB-G6270 projector) to the Epson EB-1430Wi MeetingMate for more intimate meetings and brainstorming/collaborative sessions, the installation of both Epson projectors allows for maximum flexibility within the space.
All these wonderful displays are nothing without the brawn behind it. Inside the Dueltek 12RU AV rack, an Extron IPCP Pro 350 control processor was installed (amongst other hardware). This was linked to the Extron TLP 520M touch-panel interface (effectively doing all the hard work behind the scenes for the touch panel). The programming of the Extron TLP 520M by Jeroen (DIB technician), was engineered for a straightforward user experience. This included making is easy to select a projector or quickly access the iPod audio input and volume control. DIB install technician, Trevor went above and beyond to make sure that all AV systems were installed and operating correctly by the date required, many times working late or on weekends.
As eluded to in the previous paragraph, another unique feature (in this and other AV installation across the new offices) was the inclusion of a direct input for an iPod or MP3 player. Many times, staff or presenters may only need to play music, which can easily be controlled through the touch interface of the Extron TLP 520M touch panel.
DIB Audio Visual have also been awarded the contract to provide AV solutions for Stage 2 of the Stonnington City Council project. The second stage will see the redevelopment of the historic Malvern Town Hall; providing equitable accommodation for the remaining Council departments. We look forward to helping provide more high quality AV installations for Stonnington City Council in their efforts to create a better place for people to live within their municipality.
