Lights, Cameras, Action! (how sound and light plays a part in Audiovisual Design)

Apart from the obvious that audiovisual means the effects of sound and light, these two elements play a much broader part in the design and installation of an audiovisual system that you might at first realise.

It isn’t just about picking a projector or screen, a microphone or speaker, a camera or components.

It is said that photography is ‘painting with light’. At DIB Audiovisual, we like to consider we paint with both light and sound.

When we are asked to design a new project, we spend a lot of time with the building designers and the client to understand the use of the room in which we are installing. As well as the materials and finishes being used in the room.

For instance – did you know the sound will bounce around a lot more in a room with a hard floor versus soft furnishings? And likewise, that big windows can impact the acoustics?

Did you know that the brightness of the projector you choose will be directly related to the light in the room – natural or otherwise.

Some of these things are obvious, even to the untrained observer.

But they can take a lot of very specific calculations.

At DIB Audiovisual, our team deeply understands the role that light and sound play in the design of a great audiovisual system. We’re regularly challenged to come up with solutions in quite difficult environments such as dining rooms, food technology classrooms, gymnasiums and more.
