Caulfield Grammar School recently enlisted DIB to install a stunning 4k-enhanced audio visual system for the ballroom space at their Malvern campus. You can learn about this installation by watching the embedded video, or reading the text writeup below.
The ballroom was the groundfloor of the school’s beautiful main building and was used for all sorts of functions and events. It previously had an old av system which was difficult to use and required specific support from the tech team in order to be used. The picture quality of the old projector also left much to be desired. With this installation, Caulfield wanted to remedy these drawbacks with the following requirements: for the new system to have fantastic picture and sound quality, for it to be usable by anyone (not just the IT or AV specialist), and for the system to be suited to a variety of uses – from small drama productions to formal events. A DIB audio visual specialist worked with staff from the IT and drama departments to come up with a suitable design for the room which met all these needs.
An Epson EB-G7905WUNL projector was installed. It was 4k enhanced so that it can effectively produce a 4k image. 4K technology brings vibrant colours and crystal clear details to a new level for an unmatched viewing experience. This was coupled with a short throw lens which allowed us to install the projector neatly from the overhanging balcony while still producing an impressive 140” image. A retractable motorised projector screen was also installed. The ballroom was a beautiful space so the DIB team worked hard to ensure that the final system would be as unobtrusive as possible whether it was in use or not.
HDMI inputs were installed at the front and rear of the ballroom. A permanent iMac and AppleTV were also connected directly to the system. This provided a flexible number of options for connecting to the projector both wirelessly or with cables. All these inputs were easily selected from an Extron MLC62 control panel, adapted by DIB to handle all aspects of operating the ballroom projector system. The school already used this panel in many of their classrooms so its installation provided a familiar interface for staff to operate the new system. The panel also had a button to run just the audio side of the system, or just the visual.
The DIB team used special Kramer cables to maintain the 4k HDMI signal from inputs all the way to projector. To match the impressive 4k enhanced projector, a Bose speaker system was installed for equally high quality audio. A number of inputs fed into the audio side of the system including 6 wireless microphones for presentations and events. Audio volume of all the inputs could be individually operated from a simple Ashly desk slider
DIB are proud of this installation which achieves stunning 4k picture quality and impressive audio, while maintaining the beautiful aesthetics of the space
