Many schools and businesses are investigating the differences between the interactive projectors and interactive whiteboards, such as the new-generation Epson MeetingMate EB-1430Wi projector and the Samsung MagicIWB. The advanced features in these new-generation interactive projectors combined with new all-time low prices for replacement lamps (now for as little as $79), make the Epson EB-1430Wi projector as a serious contender in this space. Epson are at the forefront of research and development into interactive technology. This includes providing new features and improving existing ones by enhancing their connectivity or functionality.

The first clear difference is the actual screen size, in which the Epson MeetingMate EB-1430Wi can produce close to a 100” screen size, which is 30% bigger (in height) than the 65” Samsung panel. This difference in screen size can present readability issues of text in both classroom and boardroom/meeting room environments, as the height of text is reduced, due to the screen size.

Cost is always a consideration with technology, but is not necessarily the only factor. However with the Samsung 65” MagicIWB (not including touch overlay) costing almost double the price of the Epson MeetingMate EB-1430Wi, it does pose the viability of the Samsung 65” MagicIWB panel.

The Epson MeetingMate EB-1430Wi also provides 6 points of Touch (either finger or pen), giving greater ability for collaboration within the meeting room or classroom. The Samsung MagicIWB allows for 2-touch capacity, but as an optional touch overlay (extra cost) to the panel itself.

Another clear benefit (particularly in school classrooms) is the continued need for use of a whiteboard. The EB-1430Wi projector allows the image to be projected directly onto the whiteboard surface, whereas the Samsung Interactive Whiteboard would generally replace this space.

Other comparisons to be made between the Epson MeetingMate EB-1430Wi and the Samsung Interactive Whiteboard (MagicIWB) is their collaboration capabilities. The Epson EB-1430i has the ability to collaborate in a global setting, with colleagues able to participate from anywhere around the world, using their tablet, laptop or mobile device. This split screen feature of the Epson MeetingMate Eb-1430Wi means that people’s interaction can be captured through a VC device, whilst the presentation/group discussion notes can be displayed simultaneously. Conversely, the Samsung MagicIWB has a similar feature set, which allows wireless connectivity to the Samsung MagicIWB via a variety of laptops, tablets and mobile devices.The only limiting factor is that connectivity only allows collaboration in a local setting (meaning only those in close proximity to the Samsung MagicIWB can connect wirelessly).

A simple, easy-to-use control pad makes it easy to access the main functions of the Epson MeetingMate EB-1430Wi projector. With the Epson projector’s on-screen menu the presenter/teacher is able to select the relevant tool or screen selection quickly and easily. With a laptop, tablet or PC connected via USB, makes the projected image become interactive, allowing normal gestures or Windows 8 gestures to be used (with compatible devices). Objects on the screen can also be resized, moved or annotated over.

Overall, the Epson MeetingMate EB-1430Wi provides a more complete, better-featured interactive technology solution than the Samsung Magic IWB. It’s local & remote video conferencing features provides a powerful solution for collaboration in business meetings. It’s brighter, larger screen size and cost-effective credentials put it ahead of the Samsung MagicIWB as the prefered option for meeting Rooms and classrooms alike.
