The New Age Gymnasium and LED Walls
In years gone by, the gymnasium at a school was the forgotten space when it came to school IT investment. Classrooms and science labs were the favoured spaces for projectors, interactive whiteboards and cameras.
Part of the reason for this was the preferred products for gymnasiums were long-throw projectors and screens. But these products – whilst cost-effective – have significant limitations. Gymnasiums are often bright and light-filled, and projectors don’t work in these conditions. The use of LED Pixels overcomes this limitation. Also, the projectors were often only used for a few hours a week because they couldn’t be used when ball sports and potential impact damage was a threat.
Now, impact-rated LED Walls are coming to the fore. Because they can be used pretty much full time, their cost per use is much lower – even if upfront investment might be a bit higher.
LED Walls, coupled with an Extron Control System, for instance, can take the gymnasium to the next level of use. Games, concerts and assemblies can all be recorded and streamed to any preferred platform. And they are super simple to use with pre-set camera and display choices.

LED Walls can be used for scoreboards. LED Displays can even be used for Advertising if so desired.

We’ve specified LED Walls into a number of recent projects including at Rowellyn Park Primary School and at PADUA College.
At Rowellyn Park, a trio of 120inch LED Walls were installed to dramatic effect. This may well be one of the most beautiful gymnasium spaces we’ve ever seen.

Another aspect of gymnasiums, which has always been an issue is they are usually large, light-filled spaces. This necessitates a high brightness product.
No issue for Aurora, which have a wide range of products including an outdoor LED Wall capable of up to 5500 NITS Brightness with a high-definition resolution. One of these displays was recently installed on the external entrance to Adelaide Central Plaza Centre in Rundle Mall.
