DIB Australia were approached by Father Laurence McNamara to consult on and conduct a unique installation in the beautiful St Joseph’s Church in the suburb of Malvern. They required a specific AV solution which would give the impact needed for its very large space, while at the same time blending into the building when not in use.
Installation process
The team at DIB consulted closely over an extended period with the church to find a solution that would gain the maximum effect for visual presentation, whilst not affecting the visually pleasing aesthetics of the building. After careful design, a unique solution was created, whereby installing two Epson EB-G6250W Projectors to side pillars (mostly out of sight). From here, images project using long throw lenses onto two large ScreenTechnics 100” (16:10 motorised projection screens). These custom built motorised screens are discreetly housed in custom built motorised arms, which fold out from the wall and motorise down into final position. Then they fold away against the wall when the screens are not in use. These arms were engineered and specifically powder-coated to closely replicate the existing paint colour on the church walls, helping them to blend into the building’s existing architecture.
In line with DIB’s ethos of making technology easy to use, the whole control system can be easily operated through commands on a JED T460 control panel (see photo below). An Apple TV unit was also included in the works to allow wireless connectivity to the projectors, (such as an iPad), from which content can be controlled and projected on the screens.
Overall, the congregation have loved the end solution provided by DIB; if fact many did not even notice the system when it was not on. For us at DIB Australia, the results have been rewarding; with our client’s response well above expectations.
