Presbyterian Ladies’ College (PLC) is an established, reputable college, dedicated in their mission to educating and empowering girls. By fostering a learning environment where students feel safe and welcomed, PLC nurtures and acknowledges the potential of each student, supporting them on their journey to excellence. The college also offers a wide range of diverse opportunities that cater towards different interests, which works in conjunction with a stimulating, challenging curriculum underpinned by Christian teachings and values.
The team at DIB was approached by PLC, who wanted new AV equipment in their Music School. This involved the installation of equipment in six rooms throughout the building. This article will be part two of two, which will cover the latter five rooms. Click here to read part 1.
Installation process
An EPSON EB-685W Ultra Short Throw projector was installed in each room. The projector is able to produce high-quality, bright images that are captivating to the eye thanks to the projector’s 3,500 ANSI lumens. This is furthered by the projector’s ultra-short throw nature, which reduces the likelihood of shadows or glare impacting the clarity of the image.
To supplement the projector’s in-built 16W speakers, DIB installed a Kramer speaker system. These two 30W speakers are effective in filling the classroom with sound, ensuring that audio can be heard regardless of where the student is in the room. A 3.5mm audio socket was also fitted, which allows users to connect their devices (like an iPod or MP3 device) directly to the speakers, playing audio without the projector system needing to be on.
A Vivi wireless receiver was also installed. The Vivi is a wireless presentation system that utilises innovative screen mirroring technology to make lessons more dynamic and engaging. Because of the Vivi’s wireless nature, the teacher is no longer restricted to teaching at the front of the classroom. Teachers can walk around the room and helping students, giving them feedback immediately. Alternatively, the student can also display content from their own devices onto the screen, increasing student engagement in the classroom.
To simplify the operation of the new system, an Extron MLC55 wall control panel was installed. This panel takes all of the most-used functions of the new system and places them in an easily accessible, central place. The panel is set up to include buttons that turn the system on and off, control the volume, and select the source to be displayed.
A HDMI input plate was fitted, allowing users to connect their external devices to the projector locally.
