Presbyterian Ladies’ College (PLC) is an established, reputable college, dedicated in their mission to educating and empowering girls. By fostering a learning environment where students feel safe and welcomed, PLC nurtures and acknowledges the potential of each student, supporting them on their journey to excellence. The college also offers a wide range of diverse opportunities that cater towards different interests, which works in conjunction with a stimulating, challenging curriculum underpinned by Christian teachings and values.
The team at DIB was approached by PLC, who wanted new AV equipment in their Music School. This involved the installation of equipment in six rooms throughout the building. This article will be part one of two, which will cover the Orchestra Room. Click here to read part 2.
Installation process
The Orchestra room, which was the larger of the six rooms, saw the installation of an EPSON EB-G7200WNL. With 7,500 ANSI lumens of brightness and WXGA resolution (1280 x 800), this high-performance projector is capable of generating ultra-bright, luminous images, which is not only important for readability in large spaces, but the brightness is also effective in catching the students’ attention. The projector also features integrated edge blending technology, which seamlessly combines multiple individual images from different projectors to create one big image, and split screen projection, where two different input sources can be displayed at any time.
A Vivi wireless receiver was also installed. The Vivi is a wireless presentation system that utilises innovative screen mirroring technology to make lessons more dynamic and engaging. Because of the Vivi’s wireless nature, the teacher is no longer restricted to teaching at the front of the classroom. Teachers can walk around the room and helping students, giving them feedback immediately. Alternatively, the student can also display content from their own devices onto the screen, increasing student engagement in the classroom.
A Sennheiser EW 135 G3-A Hand Held system was supplied. This handheld microphone system is versatile and can be used in a variety of different ways, whether it be for a music performance or a presentation. Two microphone sockets were also fitted in the room, should additional microphones be required.
DIB installed a Lectrum L20S, which features a dress panel that can showcase a school’s logo at the front. The Lectrum L20S is fitted with a Beyerdynamic gooseneck microphone, which is well-suited for the lectern.
A pair of high-quality Community DS8 8″ 2-Way Loudspeakers were installed in the room. These speakers are low-profile and effective, providing dynamic sound quality and excellent intelligibility. A 3.5mm audio socket was fitted so that users can connect their iPod or MP3 devices directly to the speakers, playing audio without needing the projected to be powered on.
For easier use of the new system, two different panels were installed. The first is an ICON audio wall control panel. This panel allows users to adjust the settings for different devices (such as the handheld microphones and the projector) without needing to worry about more complex settings. The second is an Extron MLC55 wall control panel, which takes all of the features of the new system and makes them easily accessible in one central area. The panel usually comes with buttons that turn the system on and off and select the source to be displayed.
Two HDMI input plates were also fitted to allow users to connect their devices through a local means.
