Improved interactivity at Sacred Heart

Sacred Heart School strives to provide a supportive and caring community where a student’s learning needs are respected and catered for. The school aims to cultivate within students an interest in the world around them, whilst instilling within them an appreciation of their spiritual side through the teaching and learning of the Catholic faith. Sacred Heart notes that their purpose is to provide an education geared towards for strong, moral and disciplined individuals, encouraging them to strive for excellence. As a result, Sacred Heart acknowledges that in order for students to better hone their intellectual, social and creative talents, the latest technological resources is necessary to supplement their learning pursuits.

Sacred Heart worked with the team at DIB to install new AV equipment in their Art Room. This involved the installation of a new interactive projector system.

Installation process

After consulting with the client, it was decided that an Epson EB-595Wi Ultra Short Throw finger touch interactive projector was to be installed in the art room. As the projector is interactive, this means that the projector can transform any whiteboard or flat surface into a giant touchscreen. Students and teachers alike can use either their fingers or the special ancillary pens to annotate or write on the projector without the need for any additional hardware. Moreover, the projector is self-calibrating, reducing the hassle associated with setting up the technology prior to a lesson.

With 3300 ANSI Lumens of output, images produced are very bright and vibrant. This augments presentations, making anything projected more striking and crisp. In turn, students are more likely to pay attention as the bright images catch their eye.

To provide some audio reinforcement for the projector’s built-in speakers, DIB installed an Epson 30 Watt external powered speaker system that matches the projector system. By reducing buzz and noises, these speakers are capable of producing high quality sound. This speaker system also features a separate auxiliary input which may be used for direct audio playback from an iPod or audio MP3 device.

To allow for easier usage of the system, a JED 2 button wall control panel was installed. By condensing all of the AV system’s functions into one panel, this removes the need for a multitude of remote controls. This panel has two buttons, which are programmed to turn the system on and off, and select the source to be projected.

The projector features a wide range of ways through which users can connect their devices, such as wireless connectivity and advanced networking capability, which allows users to monitor, control and present from a remote location. Local connectivity is also an option through the HDMI inputs on the projector itself, and with the the installation of HDMI, VGA and USB input plates.
