As a commitment to the aspirations of 21st Century learning, Caulfield Grammar have developed Learning Projects at each of their three Victorian Campuses. These allow teachers to explore new learning technologies in specifically designed learning spaces to evaluate their effectiveness and possible application in future building works. Having worked on many projects over the years, DIB were approached by Caulfield Grammar to provide an AV solution for a unique space called the Meeting Nook at their Malvern campus.
As with many new building projects, DIB worked alongside the architects and electrical consultants to find the AV solution for this specific space. The whole design and manufacture of the actual building was done off-site (not on campus), making the AV installations for these Learning Projects even more complex.
In deciding on the AV equipment and layout of this space, it was important that DIB understand the requirements put forward by Caulfield Grammar. This space was a unique Meeting Nook, in that it needed to cater for specific needs. Malvern campus is the Junior school at Caulfield Grammar and with this understand the technology had to be height accessible to all students, as well as teachers to allow for use of the device at normal height for presentations etc. An interactive Commbox Classic 60” LED Touchscreen (CB3060L) with a wall-lift option was chosen to cater for this requirement in this space.
The Extron MLC62 control panel was incorporated into the design and installation to make the system easy-to-use and control. Two AMIS QuickFix 6” ceiling speakers were fitted to provide audio in the learning space. Another important addition to the system was a HDMI interface, for connection of other devices.
Other inclusions to the system included an Apple TV and a Mac Mini, which could be used by the interactive screen or accessed via a wireless device, such as an iPad. Other important components which were also cleverly installed behind the Commbox were a Kramer VS-211H HDMI switcher and a JED 439 USB switcher. As seen in the photo below, installing all these components behind the Commbox and between the wall-lifter bracket is a testimony to DIB’s commitment to producing quality AV installations.
Overall, in conjunction with other contractors on the project, DIB have produced a unique AV installation that has created a delightful learning space for the students and staff at Caulfield Grammars’ junior campus in Malvern.
