DIB Australia have developed a strong long-term relationship with Ivanhoe Grammar over many years. So, when Ivanhoe Grammar were planning to build a new Administration building at the Plenty Campus, they asked DIB to consult on the AV design and installation of a Video Conferencing room. Working closely with the IT Manager, DIB worked to understand their specific needs to tailor a solution for the project.
Simplicity was the key. It needed to be very simple to use and a very streamlined, well-finished installation. This design process involved many discussions; from choosing an appropriate Polycom system, to the exact boardroom table that would be used, so that table boxes could be incorporated into the design. Many of these factors were complex, and our consultant worked hard at finding specific unique solutions that would be best suited to the aesthetics and AV design of the system in the room. Attention to detail was important, which included installing automated blinds and lighting which would optimise the lighting effectiveness of the system.
After much dialogue with Ivanhoe Grammar, it was decided that the Polycom EagleEye Director technology would be used. This system creates a unique video conferencing experience; from the Full HD vision that is displayed, the two cameras detect who’s talking by facial recognition and switch the image to present a framed and close-up view of the current speaker. All these high resolution video was displayed on two Philips BDL5520QL 55” LCD Edge LED TVs mounted side by side at the long end of the table for best viewing experience. Audio playback was created to flow through two Extron SI 28W speakers that were installed flush to the wall, directly underneath the Philips 55″ TVs.
The engine behind the whole Video Conferencing system was the Polycom Group 500 Codec. This helped provided a seamless Video Conferencing experience for Ivanhoe Grammar, with staff being able to share content from devices like an iPad during a meeting, making it easier to share idea and explain concepts via VC.
DIB understand that the clarity of audio pick-up is critical in Video Conferencing, so in this installation, it was decided to use the Polycom Group Series Table Top Microphone Array, which were powered through cabling coming from carefully positioned floor boxes under the table. Careful placement of two of these Polycom Microphone Array systems allowed for excellent audio pick up no matter who was talking at the table.
All this technology were easily accessed and operated through the Extron TLP700TV 7” Touchlink panel tabletop controller. DIB even installed preset dial buttons to make it simple and easy for staff to quickly and easily start the video conferencing process.
All of this design and installation had to be carefully co-ordinated with the construction of the new building. Ivanhoe Grammar are now enjoying their AV installation for Video Conferencing in their new Administration building; providing communication and collaborative meetings between campuses.
