AV refresh for Melbourne Girls Grammar classrooms

Melbourne Girls Grammar is an all-girls school that takes pride in being a front runner in girls’ education since the school’s inception in 1893. With a long track record for excellence, the school strives to maintain this reputation by constantly putting their students’ well being at the forefront. Melbourne Girls Grammar encourages their students to be more confident in their capacity to achieve great things, whilst molding them into independent individuals well-equipped to tackle the world beyond the classroom. With innovative learning and co-curricular programs and state-of-the-art facilities, Melbourne Girls Grammar aims not only to inspire students to succeed academically, but gives them opportunities to discover who they are meant to be. This dedication to empowering young women means that the school actively refreshes their technological facilities, ensuring that the students have the best resources at their disposal.

The team at DIB was approached by Melbourne Girls Grammar, who expressed an interest in upgrading the AV systems in their Morris Hall, which includes four classrooms. After reviewing the building and ascertaining what the client would like in each room, DIB proposed a solution that answered the needs of the school.

Installation process

Before the commencement of installation work, DIB removed old classroom equipment such as old projectors and speakers as Melbourne Girls Grammar is a valued client of DIB.

For this project, the EPSON EB-696Ui Ultra Short Throw Finger Touch interactive projector was selected for installation in each room. This projector is capable of transforming any flat surface into an interactive touch screen. Students and teachers are able to use their fingers or the special pens to annotate directly onto the screen, combining the conventional whiteboard functions with more innovative technology. This promotes more student engagement in the classroom, and maximises learning time through a more hands-on approach. The projector also features the ability to save any projected images and annotations directly onto a USB stick, which can then be easily emailed and distributed to students.

The projector also boasts 3,800 lumens of brightness and 3x brighter colours, which ensures that any projected images are ultra bright and vibrant. Further, the ultra short throw nature of the projector – coupled with the projector’s WUXGA (1920×1200) resolution – means that shadows or glare that may interfere with the image’s clarity are eliminated, consistently allowing for crystal clear images.

Each room was also installed in a Vivi Wireless Receiver. Vivi is an innovative, wireless presentation system that can suit any modern classroom. The Vivi’s screen mirroring technology allows both teachers and students to easily present content from their screens. Teachers can not only share important lesson material to every student easily, but students can get feedback from teachers immediately. This means that students can quickly know what they’ve done right and where they can improve. The Vivi is also very user friendly in that it supports most, if not all, operating systems, meaning that users can connect regardless of what type of device they have.

As simplicity is central to DIB, a JED (T460) four button wall control panel was fitted to allow for a more simplified use of the new system. These panels condense all of the system’s features in one central place. They typically include buttons that turn the system on and off, control the volume and select the source to be displayed.

DIB further installed a HDMI input plate connection to add another means through which users can connect their devices.
