St Bede’s College is an all-boys school guided by Catholic and Lasallian values, permeating throughout its education model. Installation process
The team at DIB worked with St Bede’s College to fit a DiscoveryLab system in one of their classrooms. This system is both a teacher feedback system and a lesson recording system. The DiscoveryLab is essential for professional development, allowing for teachers to review their lessons and identifying areas of improvement. It is also useful for students because it allows teachers to record lessons complete with lesson content, audio and video for later use.
A scaling engine and full HD USB recording system was installed and customised by DIB. This rack mounted system allows for the recording of the classroom in professional development mode or lesson capture mode. These recordings can be saved directly onto a user’s USB stick for easy distribution or future reviewal.
To best utilise the functionalities of the recording system, two HD SDI cameras with adjustable zoom lens and focus were installed to allow for a full view of both the front and rear of the room. With full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution, these cameras can record high-quality images, housed in compact ceiling housings that fit nicely with the room’s environment.

Coupled with these full high definition recordings from the video cameras, two very discrete, high quality boundary microphones were installed to provide audio equally as high quality as the video. This provides users with a playback file with complete video and audio capture of the lesson in all its detail. These microphones are also ceiling mounted, appearing as small white circles.

Additionally, the room was fitted with an EPSON EB-595Wi Ultra Short Throw finger touch interactive projector. With the ability to transform any surface into a giant touchscreen, students and teachers are able to interact with the projector using their fingers or the ancillary pens. The projector, with its 3300 ANSI Lumens of brightness output that make for vibrant, eye-catching displays, is a perfect staple to any classroom, adding a dash of interactivity and excitement that promotes student engagement.

The whole system can be controlled via a Joey Lite control system. The control system makes using the system intuitive and simple by placing all functionality in one place. The system is set up to include buttons that turn the system on and off, selecting the source to display, toggling the electronic whiteboard, selecting the capture mode, and activating recording mode. With this ease of operation, there is less hassle and users can simply get straight on with their presentations.
