With a campus in Broadmeadows and in Glenroy, Penola Catholic College offers a broad curriculum that allows students to pursue their academic and vocational interests. Fostering an interactive and engaging environment that embraces innovation, the College’s learning spaces are flexible and lends itself to new ways of learning and teaching. As such, Penola fits each of their classrooms with the very best in educational technology, acknowledging that information technologies are crucial to the teaching paradigms in the modern age. Students and staff are able to utilise these dynamic, audiovisual resources and facilities to enhance their learning experience and lessons respectively.
When it came to upgrading the audiovisual systems in ten classrooms, Penola trusted the team at DIB with this project. After consultations with the client, DIB designed a plan that catered to the needs of the staff.
Installation process
As Penola is a valued client of DIB, DIB first arranged for the removal of old classroom equipment, such as projectors and old speakers, to allow for the easy installation of brand new products.
This project primarily involved the installation of a new projector and speaker system. In all of the classrooms, an EPSON EB-695Wi Ultra Short Throw Finger Touch Interactive Projector was fitted. These projectors blend in seamlessly with the current teaching environment, providing a dash of excitement that can augment any lesson plan. Because the projector is interactive, it can transform a flat surface such as an existing whiteboard into an interactive touch screen. Students and teachers can use the provided ancillary pens or their fingers to interact with the projector, promoting student engagement with the lesson content. The projector also provides peace of mind for teachers, as the projector is not only self-calibrating, but there are no drivers to install. This allows teachers to simply focus on teaching students rather than worrying about the classroom technology.
The projector’s 3500 ANSI lumens of output and WXGA resolution means that any projected images are ultra-bright and vibrant, which is perfect for catching a student’s attention.
For use with the projector, a high quality 1.2 x 1.8m vitreous enamel whiteboard was installed. This whiteboard is very flat and has a ceramic type surface, which is exceptionally well suited for interactive projection.
The team at DIB also installed an EPSON 30 Watt stereo speaker system to match the installed projector system. These speakers are an effective means of audio reinforcement for the projector’s built-in speakers. They are capable of producing high-quality audio as they reduce buzz and noises. The speaker system also comes with a separate auxiliary input that may be used for direct audio device connection, such as an iPod.
The JED T460 in each classroom was removed, relocated and re-programmed to cater for any changes made with the installation. This includes re-doing button labels and the panel front as necessary.
A HDMI input plate connection and a USB wall plate fit for interactive display was installed. The former allows users to connect their devices locally, while the latter works well with some of the projector’s features, such as allowing users to save notes from the projector to a USB.
