Project Overview
Salesian College Chadstone is a Catholic boys’ secondary school in Melbourne’s south-east, educating students in Years 7–12 across two campuses while continuing the educational tradition of St John Bosco and investing in contemporary learning spaces.
The college’s Bosco Hall serves as both a gymnasium and assembly space for sporting activities, presentations, assemblies and larger school events. With the existing AV system showing its age, the school wanted brighter projection, larger screens and simpler controls for staff.
Having previously delivered AV solutions at the college, D.I.B Audio Visual was engaged to refresh the hall, improving image quality and usability while integrating with existing infrastructure.
The upgrade introduced two Epson 16,000 ANSI lumen WUXGA laser projectors paired with two 200-inch ScreenTechnics projection screens, delivering bright, clear visuals throughout Bosco Hall. Both projectors feature middle throw zoom lenses and protective security cages, helping safeguard the equipment during sporting activities. The existing projectors and screens were also removed as part of the upgrade.
Making the system easier to use was a key focus. An auto-switching HDMI and USB-C input plate lets presenters connect their devices without manually selecting inputs, while USB-C provides charging for supported laptops and tablets.
Behind the scenes, HDBaseT signal distribution, a Kramer 4×1 HDMI switcher and a Q-SYS Core DSP provide signal routing, audio processing and system control. The new solution also integrates with the hall’s existing audio system, including wireless microphones, while a dedicated Bluetooth wall plate provides convenient wireless audio connectivity.
The system is controlled through two wall-mounted Apple iPads housed in secure Bosstab Elite enclosures with Power over Ethernet connectivity. Positioned away from high-traffic areas, the controls remain accessible while protected from accidental damage.
Working within an older building presented challenges around cable pathways, equipment mounting and integration with existing systems. Careful planning and coordination allowed D.I.B Audio Visual to modernise the space while making effective use of existing infrastructure.
The result is a modern, user-friendly AV system that supports presentations, assemblies, sporting events and school performances, giving staff brighter projection and simpler control in a busy multipurpose space.
