Project Overview

Catholic Regional College Caroline Springs is committed to contemporary learning that encourages creativity, collaboration and independent thinking. As part of the College’s investment in specialist learning facilities, the Sacred Heart Building introduced purpose-built spaces for Food Technology, Art and Music.

Practical learning spaces place unique demands on classroom technology. In Food Technology rooms, students need to clearly see demonstrations from their cooking stations, while teachers need technology that’s easy to use during practical lessons.

As part of the Sacred Heart Building development, D.I.B Audio Visual designed two modern Food Technology rooms tailored to practical teaching. The AV system was designed to support demonstrations, clear communication and simple operation.

Each room features a 5,000 ANSI lumen Epson ultra-short throw laser projector paired with a vitreous enamel whiteboard, allowing teachers to move seamlessly between projected content and whiteboard instruction. Two Philips 65-inch commercial displays work alongside the central projector, allowing students to follow demonstrations from their own workstations.

A key feature is the dual-camera demonstration system. Marshall HD cameras capture the preparation bench and cooktop, with the live feed displayed on the central projector and two Philips displays. A foot switch lets teachers change camera views while keeping both hands free during food preparation.

In what can often be a noisy learning environment, the rooms are equipped with a Mipro wireless microphone system and Bosch ceiling speakers. Teachers can move freely while remaining clearly heard.

The AV system also supports flexible teaching. Teachers can share content wirelessly using Apple TV or via HDMI, with content displayed on the projector and both room displays. When required, integrated DiscoveryLab lecture capture allows demonstrations to be recorded, capturing camera feeds, presentation content and teacher audio into a single recording that can be saved to the school’s network for future review.

Despite the technology behind the scenes, everyday operation remains straightforward. An intuitive Extron touchscreen provides quick access to the room’s key functions, allowing teachers to switch between camera feeds, Apple TV and HDMI sources from a single interface.

By combining intuitive control, clear visuals and lesson capture, D.I.B Audio Visual created a Food Technology learning environment that supports engaging demonstrations, clear communication and flexible teaching.
