We find that the above four elements are interconnected and that a lack of focus on any one of these items drives up problems with all of the others. By way of example: If the consultant is inexperienced and or does not dig deep enough to understand the end client and users needs then often the design is either dramatically overstated (as they try to cover all manner of needs that will not be required) or it is the opposite and dramatically understated and so misses the requirement by a long way. Overstating the design reduces simplicity of operation and drives up complexity and cost. So focusing on these design principles delivered significant benefit to customers.
