Vermont South Special School, a government-funded institution located 20 km east of central Melbourne, is committed to supporting students with special needs. The school offers tailored educational programs designed to aid academic, social, and emotional development.
As part of the schools renovation, Vermont South Special School approached DIB Audio Visual to design a simple to use but effective AV system to provide high quality Audio & Visual in their upcoming building refurbishment. There are two main areas: one for inside the school and one for outside.
◾ Inside the School:
The wall that separated the two spaces was removed and replaced with a operable wall. When the operable wall is closed, the area can function as both a multifunctional room and a staff room. However, when more people are present, the wall taken out to create one large multifunctional space.
One side of the room features a motorised projector screen that retracts within its housing for storage when not in use. The front of the room is equipped with HDMI inputs, Bluetooth connectivity, and an AV touch panel. High-quality speakers are installed on both sides of the screen. A ceiling-mounted projector will serve both small and large spaces effectively. There are also two extra speakers positioned halfway down the room, which can be turned on or off depending on whether the operable wall is open or closed.
The space itself is narrow and long, which is why there are two additional TVs installed halfway along the room. These will display the same content as the projector. In combined mode, audio and visual outputs will be sent to the additional speakers and TV monitors. When the operable wall is closed, the speakers and TVs can operate independently.
◾ Outside the School:
For outdoor use, four speakers have been installed, two for small groups, and all four for large groups. This setup allows for control depending on the size of the group. The speaker controller connects to the inside control panel, enabling the school to use the same control system.
Additionally, antennas have been set up for a wireless microphone, which also connects to the existing control system in the multipurpose room. We have reprogrammed this system so that users can adjust the microphone volume and select zones from the touch control panel. A wall plate for Bluetooth connectivity has been installed.
Vermont South Special School has enhanced its educational environment with a versatile AV system for both indoor and outdoor use. The multifunctional space, featuring a motorised projector screen, promotes collaborative learning. High-quality audio and visual equipment, including well-placed speakers and TVs, ensures an engaging experience for all students. The outdoor setup allows for controlled speaker outputs based on group size, supporting various activities.
The school said, “DIB AV’s professionalism, expertise, and dedication were clear from start to finish. The new audio system has had a huge impact on our school community.” These improvements reflect the school’s commitment to providing an inclusive and supportive atmosphere for students with special needs.
