Project Overview

Knox Library, located at Westfield Knox in Wantirna South, has completed its redevelopment, transforming it into a vibrant hub for locals. The DIB AV team played a key role in this project, achieving excellent results and elevating the community experience.

The library located in the recently developed Knox shopping centre requires an effective AV system and equipment to provide high-quality resources for the community. Libraries today serve more than just a place for books; they host meetings, guest speakers, and community events. Different spaces within the library, such as the community room, activity room, and program room, each cater to specific users. Our goal is to understand these users’ needs and what they are looking for. Effective communication with the architect, council, and stakeholders was crucial in this process.

In the community room, an operable wall divides the space, allowing it to function as one large room or two smaller ones. This flexibility required careful design. We aimed to create a clean, minimalistic meeting space, allowing for versatile table arrangements. To keep the tables uncluttered, we opted for ceiling microphones, which provide audio coverage throughout the room without the need for desktop or tabletop microphones. This makes the ceiling microphone an ideal solution for capturing voices in small to medium-sized spaces. Additionally, wall-mounted cameras were installed to offer multiple viewing angles.
Turning to the program room, the larger space is designed for presentations, lectures, and community town hall meetings. With the capacity to accommodate larger groups, a sizable screen is essential. We installed a screen that seamlessly deploys and retracts through a recessed ceiling housing, allowing it to discreetly disappear when not in use.

Cameras are positioned at the back of the room to capture the entire space for video streaming, allowing viewers to see all activities as they unfold.
The control panel is designed to be simple and user-friendly, ensuring ease of use for everyone. Our focus on simplicity makes the system highly accessible. DIB prioritises usability at every stage of the design process, featuring a control system with a straightforward graphical user interface. Our approach is to simplify the complex, saving valuable time while ensuring access to the equipment remains safeguarded to prevent unauthorised use.

The successful implementation of the AV systems has significantly enhanced Knox Library’s functionality, enabling the client to host a wide variety of events, from small meetings to large presentations, with ease. The flexible design of the community rooms allows for adaptive use, accommodating different group sizes and activities. The library has truly become a vibrant community resource, fostering engagement and interaction among locals.
