Recently, the school completed a world-class Sports & Aquatic Centre featuring a fully FINA-accredited Olympic-sized hydro floor swimming pool that is 50 metres long and has eight lanes. We played key role in the AV system.
On a previous project, we installed a high-quality sound system in the pool hall that delivers exceptional audio quality. For this project, we added a screen that is used not only for display purposes but also for sports carnivals and various water events. This AV system was integrated with the existing setup and upgraded to include a user-friendly touchscreen control panel, making it easier to manage both video and sound.
We worked closely with the steel framing company to make sure the screen was positioned correctly. This was important to avoid any damage to the tiles and wall, while also making sure the wiring was safe. Since the screen weighs about 500 kilograms, we focused on safety in our design and made sure our plans aligned with the steel framing team’s approach.
It was truly a team effort, as we also worked closely with the school’s electrician. Additionally, we assisted with the wiring for the swimming timer system, which we did not supply. Now, all race scores are displayed on the screen.
The project was complex due to challenges such as cable access, which needed to be neat and unobtrusive. For instance, all equipment was placed upstairs, with the rack holding the equipment situated at the far end of the building. Power cables and signal lines had to be run through the roof, and we opted for fibre-optic cables due to the distance involved. We then transitioned to standard wires in a storeroom and connected everything to the screen without disrupting the building’s integrity. There was a considerable amount of work involved in the cabling.
To ensure durability, we installed a waterproof HDMI connection with a splash cover, allowing for plug-ins without the risk of water damage, such as during deck washing.
In the pool hall, we conducted an original fit-out that provided fantastic sound quality, including a wireless microphone and Bluetooth pairing plate. The facility is also equipped with wireless underwater cameras to capture students’ swimming strokes, which are displayed on the big screen.
