Project Overview

Hoppers Crossing Secondary College, established in 1984 and located approximately 20 minutes west of Melbourne, is a thriving co-educational school serving around 1,500 students from Years 7 to 12, known for its innovative programs and strong community engagement. For the school, the gymnasium is more than just a place for sport. It doubles as a space for assemblies, graduations, performances, and whole-school gatherings—events that require clear visuals, reliable sound, and recording/streaming capability.

When the College sought to upgrade its AV systems, D.I.B Audio Visual was referred by another school that had experienced the team’s work first-hand. This project became one of the first major collaborations between Hoppers Crossing and DIB, setting the stage for a system designed with both flexibility and ease of use in mind.

The installation included three Epson Full-HD projectors paired with two 180-inch motorised Grandview screens, supported by six Optimal Audio loudspeakers that deliver even sound coverage throughout the gym. Whether it’s a principal addressing students, a guest speaker presenting, or music playback for a performance, the audio is clear and consistent. Teachers and staff can also choose between three different display modes—mirrored across all screens, mirrored across the side screens only, or fully independent. With multiple HDMI input points placed strategically around the space, presenters can connect from the stage, floor, or AV rack, depending on the event’s needs.

A key feature of this upgrade was the addition of two Lumens pan–tilt–zoom (PTZ) cameras and a recording/streaming system. This enables the school to capture graduations, assemblies, or performances and share them with families who may not be able to attend in person. The system offers different layouts such as full screen, side-by-side, or picture-in-picture, and a preview monitor ensures staff always know what is being streamed or recorded.

Behind the scenes, a matrix switcher allows any input—whether laptop, camera, or other device—to be routed to any output. For staff, D.I.B Audio Visual has designed the system to feel simple and intuitive. A password-protected touchscreen, created in consultation with school leaders, provides clear controls with easy-to-read icons and labels. This ensures that even with a highly capable system, operation remains straightforward for everyday use.

By combining thoughtful planning with advanced AV solutions, the Hoppers Crossing gym is now equipped to handle the diverse demands of a modern school community—seamlessly supporting everything from sporting events to milestone celebrations.
