This is part 1 of a series of articles exploring DIB’s audio visual installation in the Enterprise Academy Classroom at Mentone Girls’ Grammar School. Part 1 will introduce the school and the installation, looking at its overall functionality. One of the finest schools for girls in Melbourne, Mentone Girls’ Grammar School helps students with all kinds of talents and backgrounds to achieve their best. Mentone Girls’ features an expert teaching staff and purpose-built facilities. The school has long embraced the efficiency and effectiveness of learning technologies in the classroom. This was continued with DIB Australia’s latest installation of a dynamic audio visual system in their Enterprise Academy Classroom. The DIB team worked closely with the school to design a custom AV solution to fit their needs.
The space had an EPSON EB-1430 MeetingMate interactive projector and Commbox touchscreen installed – the main components of this audio visual solution. These were configured so that they could be used individually to display different content, or together with the Commxbox touch panel mirroring the display of the MeetingMate.

The system was designed to provide for smaller group work and large presentations. For larger groups, the room could be used as a whole, with the CommBox touchscreen display mirroring the MeetingMate interactive whiteboard and both sets of speakers in sync. Microphones weer installed so that presenters could be easily heard in these situations. However, if the class wants to divide into smaller groups to focus on individual learning, the CommBox can be connected to directly and display different contents to the MeetingMate. Each can be used a tool for collaboration through their touchscreens. Thanks to an attenuator, the two sets of speakers at the front and back of the space can have their volume adjusted individually. This way, when the CommBox screen is being used seperately to the MeetingMate projector, the rear set of speakers can be muted so they do not transmit audio from the projector and the CommBox soundbar is used instead.

Overall, this installation helped to create a powerful and versatile space. The Enterprise Academy Classroom provides for large presentations, along with smaller group work and encourages student collaboration and engagement through the installation of the Epson interactive projector and CommBox interactive display.
