Killester College – Kennedy Hall Gym and Classrooms get a 21st Century upgrade
Killester College is a catholic school for girls based in Springvale, Melbourne that prides itself on providing a strong, broad curriculum in a caring environment based on Gospel values. The school states its vision is to create a learning community where everyone is welcomed, valued and can experience success. They want students to engage in the challenge and excitement of learning.
The team at DIB Audiovisual strongly support educational institutions and believes that quality audio and visual equipment can open up new educational approaches and opportunities.
This of course extends beyond the classroom into many spaces in a school. Including the trend for schools to turn gymnasiums into multifunctional event spaces.
In assisting Killester College with the upgrade of their gym and classroom spaces in Kennedy Hall, we were able to design and install a number of audio and visual systems that will bring these spaces to life during school meetings and events.
Gymnasiums are challenging spaces for both light and sound. They are often large spaces, with hard surfaces and are well-lit. This requires careful design and selection of components. Bright projectors and quality speakers are amongst the many components that are critical in this sort of space.
Being a gym, we also have to protect these pieces of equipment with secure cages to prevent the errant ball from taking out a projector.
In this part of the upgrade, we selected dual Epson EB-L1505UNL high-performance projectors complete with WUXGA FULL HD resolution and 12,000 ANSI lumens of brightness. We paired these with a G7000 Laser standard middle throw zoom lens so we could project a large image from the projectors mounted several metres from the screen.
Speaking of screens, you’ll see in this image the two high-quality Grandview Motorised 200″ 16:10 diagonal (4308 x 2692mm) projection screens.
DUAL GRANDVIEW SCREENS
Moving onto audio, we installed high-quality front-of-house and on-delay speakers from the Community range. These robust and full-range speakers are great for acoustically challenging spaces such as basketball courts. Together the speakers provide an even distribution of sound to this large space.
Presenters and performers are well equipped when they speak or sing with a range of hand held and lapel microphones from the Sennheiser range. Specifically Sennheiser Evolution G4 – Handheld Super-Cardioid premium microphones. and Sennheiser Evolution G4 – Lapel microphones.
An Extron DMP 128 system featuring DSP control supports optimum room setup. This enabled the Control System to fully integrate the following inputs;
– programme from AV matrix
– 3.5mm iPod connection
– Wireless & Wired Microphone Connections
– Laptop HDMI & Audio feeds
– each DSP has a total capacity for 12 input channels and 8 outputs.
Of course, there were many other components as well as professionally installed cabling and control panels that deliver an easy-to-use, great sounding, awesome looking and functional audiovisual system for the college.
