Japara Living and Learning Centre is run by the Yarra Ranges Council and is located in Melbourne’s eastern suburb of Lilydale; the gateway to the picturesque Yarra Valley. The council engaged the services of ClarkeHopkinsClarke Architects to design the building, and DIB was contacted via the electrical consultants to help determine AV solutions for the project.
DIB consulted closely with the Yarra Ranges Council (over a period of time) to provide a custom designed solution to suit the specific needs of each individual space within the Japara Centre. This process also included allowing the client to trial various technologies to determine their suitability and functionality for their intended space. As a result of this consultative process, DIB Australia were successfully chosen to complete the AV installation works for the Japara project.
The first space was a shared Multi-Purpose Hall. The challenge in this space was the lower hanging air ducts through the centre of the room. The Epson EB-G6250W projector with a long throw lens was specifically chosen, to allow images and vision to be projected from the back of the room onto a Grandview 120” 16:10 (Matt white) Motorised Projection Screen at the front wall. This were designed to specifically sit snugly under the lights and air duct that hang down from the ceiling, which
The Joey Lite control panel was utilised in this AV installation to provide an easy-to-use interface for control of all components of the system (Bluray player, Free to Air TV, AM/FM Tuner, iPod/MP3 players, MIPRO Wireless – Hand Held TX 6B microphones). This involved programming the unit to automatically switch on/off amplifiers when certain aspects of the system were in use, to give a pleasant AV experience when using the room. The system was also setup to integrate with their existing Hearing Augmentation system.
Along with the main pair of speakers mounted next to the motorised screen, smaller speakers were also discreetly installed in an array across the ceiling in the room to give even audio playback throughout the room.
All the AV equipment to run the system were installed inside a locked AV rack, which was placed inside a lockable cupboard for security. Inside here the operator can easily access control inputs, and the system itself, through the Joey Lite control panel.
DIB have created a unique AV space in the Multipurpose Hall of the Japara Living and Learning Centre, which will cater for many different applications and in keeping with DIB’s ethos has created an AV system that is simple and easy-to-use.
