Refreshing Ivanhoe Primary prep centre’s AV resources

For over 160 years, Ivanhoe Primary is dedicated to providing a high quality education program for the local community. Ivanhoe Primary fosters

a positive, vibrant and inspiring environment where students are valued and supported throughout their development. The school encourages students to not only become life-long learners, but to become curious, reflective and critical in their thinking as global citizens. Ivanhoe Primary understands the importance of digital learning in the classroom, and is committed to shaping students into innovative and confident users of digital technology, who can effectively communicate, collaborate, curate and create.

To this end, Ivanhoe Primary worked with DIB in installing the latest in educational technology for three classrooms in their new prep centre. This new technology hopes to re-invigorate the learning environment for more engaging lessons.

Installation process

In two of the classrooms, DIB installed an Epson EB-695Wi interactive projector. The interactivity of the projector changes the classroom landscape by allowing users to engage with the projections using either their fingers or the projector’s special pens. This creates a more hands-on environment that in turn promotes more student engagement. For teachers, this projector is hassle-free to set up, featuring self-calibration and no additional driver installations. The projector also features 3,500 ANSI lumens of brightness, which means that the images created by the projector are bright and vivid, which is important for interactive use.

A low gloss, enamel whiteboard was also installed. The whiteboard’s flat, ceramic-type surface is perfect for both ultra-short throw and interactive projection due to the minimal reflection allowing for a brighter projected image.

To support the projector’s existing 16W built-in speakers, DIB installed a 30W speaker system. With two 15W speakers, this system can carry noise-free audio throughout the entire classroom.

The new projector system features many connectivity options, from an external USB wall plate to the projector’s own HDMI/VGA inputs, as well as the option for wireless use (thanks to the projector’s advanced networking capabilities).

For the third classroom, a portal LED touchscreen system was installed instead of a projector. This portable system comprises of a 65″ Hitachi interactive flat panel, a powerful, ultra HD monitor which provides a similar interactive element inside classrooms, allowing for 20 points of touch at any one time. The monitor also has a built-in, PC free whiteboard feature, which can act as a substitute for a conventional, static whiteboard. The screen also features 20W front-facing speakers, which can easily fill the space with audio. The screen was installed on a heavy duty, Gilkon motorised trolley.
